Structural deterioration in concrete buildings and bridge structures has reached epidemic proportions due to the use of de-icing salt solutions. Corrosion of the supporting structural reinforcing steel significantly reduces the capacity of suspended concrete structures, even to the point of collapse in extreme cases.
